Upcoming meeting

The 664th SASRE General Meeting will be held at the Fhata Lushaka Boardroom, Koedoespoort Workshops, on Thursday, 22nd June 2017 at 17h00. Refilwe Ndlela, Pr. Eng. Technician (Metallurgy) at Transnet Freight Rail will present a paper entitled: ‘The significance of Non-Destructive Testing on rail infrastructure.’

Synopsis

Non- destructive testing (NDT) is an umbrella of a number of methods which serve to test the internal and external structure of components without impairing their future usefulness. This presentation focuses on the significance of Non-destructive testing methods, particularly Radiography and Ultrasonic testing as condition monitoring diagnostic instruments/equipment, which serves to provide accurate information for preventative and corrective maintenance of the rail infrastructure. The presentation also outlines the need for development in (NDT methods) in order to improve the rail condition and the track operational efficiency.


About the speaker

Refilwe Ndlela is a Pr. Eng. Technician in Metallurgy, with a B-Tech from the VUT, she is currently completing her MTech in Industrial Engineering specialising in Technology management with TUT. Refilwe’s career with Transnet Freight Rail started in 2010; her key responsibilities within the Track Technology section is providing Metallurgy and Non-destructive Testing solutions to Rail Network and rail Infrastructure departments. Her focus areas are Industrial radiography and Ultrasonic testing for which she holds ASNT certifications from SANDE.
